So I inadvertently stumbled upon a new sensory bin idea this spring… If you’re new around here, I kind of have a thing for Sensory Bins. You can read about how I got started on them here and then also how I have created Spring, Summer, Fall, Christmas, and Winter seasonal bins for my little ones as well.
Well, this spring I was at the Dollar Tree (because they have the BEST sensory bin supplies, especially in the Spring when there are easter eggs galore). And while I went there hoping they would have the same Easter Eggs they had last year (in the shapes of sports balls and carrots) I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had SO much MORE than just those this year!
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate this sight…
I’m telling you, I started throwing eggs in my basket left and right. And while I was mostly collecting for our Spring Rice Sensory Bin, my heart stopped a little when I saw these…
Eggs shaped like farm animals, zoo animals and sea creatures! I was so excited for two reasons…one being eggs are just great for sensory bins because they open, close, scoop, dump, shake, etc. But also because I knew this opened a whole new realm of possibilities for sensory bins.
I was picturing sea creatures in our water table, farm animals with some tractors in our beans, etc. So naturally I just snagged up one of each to take home!
And while I was there, happened to snag a few pics of some of our other favorite Dollar Tree sensory bin accessories (aside from the normal of cups, scoops, tons, etc).
These miniature trucks are such a hit with my boys – I think they sell 3 different sets and we have them all!
And of course little animals (farm, jungle, and sea) to correspond with the eggs!
Anyway, back to the eggs. When I picked up the animal eggs, I didn’t have an exact vision I was ready to execute, expect for as I mentioned above, adding them to our general sensory supplies.
However, the next day I was at Aldi, and I happened to walk by the bags of split peas. And immediately I knew a jungle/zoo sensory bin was in order!
We already had the animals and a small container at home, so this one was super easy to pull together! And seriously cost *maybe* $5 to make!
Isn’t it cute?!
It was an immediate hit and was even taken outside to the driveway several times to share with neighborhood friends!
Stay tuned to see how else I use the fun animal eggs!
Until next time!
