So – Toddler Toy Story Room! If you know me, you’re not at all surprised that I’ve decorated two different classical Winnie the Pooh nursery’s, and a toddler Toy Story room.
And here’s the other thing – if you know me – and even if you don’t I’ll tell you now…I don’t generally like red, or any of the bold colors generally associated with these two themes. Despite my IMENSE and DEEP love for Disney…I’m just particular about color schemes! I like some color, but I tend to go for muted, softer colors. Close to neutral, but just that pop for some character!
Anyways. As sad as I was for my toddler to outgrow his Pooh Bear nursery (I mean I would have kept him in there forever, but baby brother needed a room!), I was over the moon when my husband’s cousin offered me her Pottery Barn Toy Story bedding…uh whattttttt yes please and THANK YOU!! Truly, I mean what more could you ask for?!
Her daughter went through a big Toy Story phase and had the sheets and quilt (unfortunately the quilt is no longer available on the website, but the sheets are linked here). Which clearly were in my desired design – fun but soft, not bold, colors. Her daughter had outgrown this set and so she gave it to us!! I mean truly I could have cried with excitement!
Anyway – this obviously jump started my toddler bedroom design and I of course ran with it!! We moved into this house in December 2021 and I worked on getting this room “mostly” done before our second was born in August 2022. I succeeded in that goal, but there were definitely things left undone that I did not get around to until about a year later :).
Anyway – with a brand new house (that we didn’t get to choose the paint colors for) with “Egret White” on the walls, I wanted a pop of color for both the boys rooms. But given the large rooms that they are, and the time crunch we were in (prepping both rooms before baby brother was born), we decided to just paint one wall in each room, and use the same color. So for this accent wall we did “Fresh Idea” by Sherwin Williams.
Most of this room truly came together with fairly minimal shopping and just repurposing what I already had.
We did have to buy the actual bed set and mattress (it’s a full and the bedding is a queen but it works just fine!) but honestly I saw that as an investment..:instead of buying a “toddler bed” (his crib converted when he was in that phase) we just went straight for a double so that he could use it for years to come!
The dresser and nightstand were in my parents guest room when I was a little girl…then they gave them to my husband and I when we got married…we moved to 3 different houses with them plus painted the set…they now have a new home in my sons room, and all I did was buy new hardware from Amazon!
That lamp on the night stand was one of my first inspirations on the Toy Story room…I had the vision for monthssss. Found the scrabble tiles no problem on Amazon. But a fillable lamp base…wowww that took some hunting down (for a reasonable price that is). I thought that would be a simple find…well let me tell you – it wasn’t! Finally found one at Walmart though!!
The prints above the bed (I mean could they be any cuter?!? We have two more sets in our Disney playroom – blog to come!) are from Amazon, with just some simple frames from Michaels.
The floating shelves I thrifted – and I mean come on, they’re clouds!!! How could I not?? And the cute little wooden stacking toy was just an Amazon find that doubled as cute decor and a toy! The curtains are IKEA curtains that we’ve had for years, in various rooms and various houses. And the floating book shelves are from Amazon (I painted mine white, but in hindsight I’m not sure it was worth the trouble :)).
This sweet sign is something I created…I couldn’t find quite what I was looking for online, so I just made my own! I bought the blank wood frame from Hobby Lobby and just added the text and designs using vinyl and my Silhouette machine!
And this fun little toy shelf…also from Amazon! I knew he was getting new toys for Christmas last year, and we had finally entered the stage of solid “Quiet Time” in his room. Before Christmas, we mostly just picked out new toys each day from the playroom and took them to his room for QT. But after Christmas, between getting new toys and QT/big boy bed going really well, I decided it was time to let him keep toys in his room!
And thus this little play shelf was added. I’m all about shelf organization, and I personally love a good shelf that is both visually appealing, but also practical. And to me, this shelf checks those boxes! Plus I added the frames above (from Michaels, to match the ones above the bed) to include photos taken in his bedroom during our first lifestyle family photoshoot after little brother was born.
This room gets so much natural light, and between the natural light and how it all came together, I just can’t help but smile everytime I walk by!
Even if I do sometimes have to look past quite a few toys in the floor…
